Why is there so much focus on staying hydrated? Why are you constantly being told to at a minimum drink 1/2 your body weight in clean water? What is all the fuss about and why is it so important?
Did you know that if your body is dehydrated that it produces the stress hormone called cortisol? Cortisol causes your body to experience blood sugar elevations. When your blood sugar elevates it signals your body to use this sugar to lower your blood sugar levels and once your blood sugar levels drop this vicious cycle starts all over again. This cycle is what causes you to feel irritable, fatigues and eventually if you stay dehydrated you will develop what we call adrenal fatigue.
Hydrations prevents several things, but when you are focused on wanting to lose weight or build lean muscle you need to focus on ensuring you are hydrated as cortisol gets stored in fat cells which prevents your body from excreting the fat. Also when you exercise, make sure you to add minerals and electrolytes without added sugars to your water while working out. A simple trick is adding pin himalayan salt to your water while working out.
