One thing my kids and I learned over the weekend was how to be our own food to body scientific investigator. Often times we get caught up of going through the motions that we forget the purpose of what we are doing and yes, I am talking about eating. When we eat we all should be observing and paying close attention to how our foods make our bodies feel. Your body will talk to you so you have to be ready to listen.
I suggest that you only have one type of each product such as dairy, for example do not have sour cream and butter together. This goes for all food groups even vegetables, do not have two cruciferous foods such as cauliflower and broccoli at one time. This will allow you to know exactly which food is causing your reaction. Food sensitivities and allergies occur within minutes so be watchful. My oldest daughter was able to observe her ears turning red and feeling hot when she consumed dairy…we already knew this was an issue, but she still would sneak dairy so for this investigation and because her reactions are not life threatening we allowed her to experiment with dairy. My youngest daughter observed how butter made her nose itch and other dairy products made her ears red and hot. I already know that dairy makes my joints feel like they are on fire. So the Reynolds’ family with the exception of my husband are quiet sensitive to dairy.
There were many other observations we were able to make and we all learned a lot about how our food is our fuel or our flame. Although you may not have a life threatening reaction to certain foods, listen to your body and learn how your body interacts with certain foods because if you are experiencing any inflammatory responses this compromises your immunity by triggering you immune system to fight when it really doesn’t need to be fighting. My oldest daughter’s inflammation markers went down by 600 points when we originally took her off dairy. Being an investigator is fun for kids, so no excuses involve the whole family. My girls even asked me to take them to the grocery store this week so we could “try some new foods”. Make it fun and you have their buy in:) Here’s to all my readers becoming aware of your food if fueling you or is it inflaming you.
