Little White Lies

Truth, exaggerated, becomes a lie Reason, concocted, becomes a lie
As Christians, we must remember how God the Father feels about lying. We must understand that when we are deceptive, no matter how we color our dishonesty, no matter the rationale behind our deceit; there is only ONE father we serve when we speak falsehoods.
The prince of darkness whispers in our minds, that is where the battle begins. However, when the untruth finds itself floating, fluid, from our tongues, as red silk in a breeze, we have served the Master of Hell. The world would have us believe there is good reason to embellish the truth or fabricate our story, but I beg us all to remember that IN Christ there is NO deceit. 1 Peter 2:22
I pen this because recently I was convicted. I had to attend a function that I did NOT want to attend. The dread built up in me like the rising of the Empire State Building. Satan began giving me many excuses to use. Most were legitimate, but the fact that I didn't want to go made those valid reasons a lie. How is that; if the excuses weren't untrue? Because I would have been using the "reasons" to get me out of something I didn't want to do. The reasons alone would not have kept me from going IF I had wanted to go.
Thankfully, God reminded me that to walk in accordance with HIS will; I mustn't use "excuse" NOT to do something He would have me do. IF it were not His will for me to go, a whisper from Satan would NOT be what He would use to get me out of it. So with a humble heart and a bit of lip pouting, I conceded "not my will, but Your's."
This inner dialogue compelled me to think of excuses, little white lies, exaggerations and the like. I was graced to remember that for no reason would my Father lie "even a little bit," nor would He require it of me. In fact, on this, the eve week of the sacrifice my Lord made, my sin and the sin of the world was brought to the forefront of my mind. It wasn't murder, adultery, homosexuality, or the like that separated man from God. It was taking a small bite from a piece of fruit, a small act of disobedience, which sealed the gruesome fate of Christ.
A lie, even a little morsel of one, one colored with a small bit of truth, is STILL a MONUMENTAL OFFENSE to God. Controlling what we say isn't merely to have a good handle on not speaking in anger, it's also a bridle from ALL deception.
The Father HATES lying lips. He called Satan, the father of lies. Satan put our Savior/God's Son on the Cross. We should HATE lies not only from the lips of others but our tongue as well. "A righteous man hates falsehoods" Proverbs 13:5
