Living In The Solution

My good friend and mentor, Jeffrey Combs said, Don't let what is going on in your outer world effect your inner world. In other words, live in the solution and don't get distracted by life. Things are going to come up, adversity is inevitable, but you do not have to be taken hostage by the events. There are ways in which you can set yourself up to not become overwhelmed so that you can remain blanaced and in the flow of life without any event stealing your joy.

Create short and long term goals for yourself and your family. I suggest creating a vision board that displays these goals in a place in the house where you and your family can frequently see the board. Once you have clear goals, then create a daily schedule that sets you up for success in obtaining these goals, and make sure that your schedule in a written calendar that you can review every morning first thing or at night before you go to bed. Your daily schedule should include the following times: spiritual enrichment/meditation, reading/learning, meals, exercise, business hours, and quality family time.

People ask me all the time if I really schedule meals and exercise and the answer is uneqivocally yes. Health is the pillar of life and I have found that it is hard to accomplish anything from a hospital bed or the graveyard. If you are healthy, then you have the energy to pour love in to obtaining your goals, being the best spouse/parent/child/sibling/friend that you can be, but if you are not functioning at 100%, then you can't give that to anything or anyone. The lesson is that you can't forsake the self-care or your goals will possibly be delayed or not be met and the quality of your life will suffer.

When any event arises in your life, take a deep breathes as this allows to release toxic emotions that derail you (anxiety, fear, and anger), assess the situation and/or call a confident that will walk you through it, then go to work on the solution. If at all possible, try to delegate the solution where possible so that you can stay on task, for example, accounting issues can be delegated to an accountant or legal issues to a lawyer, then resist the urge to micromanage. When you hire lawyers, accountants, etc. hire people you trust to get the jobs done right the first time. We are all human and we can only control ourselves, and not the timing of events so do not expect that every activity on your calendar will land on the hour or half-hour like it is written in your calendar. Progress not perfection is what we are looking for and this will allow you to move forward in the directions of your goals.
